ZELLA DAY MAN ON THE MOON

Zella Day is one of those rare finds whose music can transport you to an entirely different place, whether that’s the deserts of her Arizona home or somewhere much further away, say the moon. That’s exactly where we’re headed in stand-alone single release ‘Man On The Moon’. As the opening lyrics suggest, the 21-year-old songwriter was inspired by “a dream that the sun in the sky was feeling so lonely he started to cry.” Far from a downward spiral of self-pity, Zella Day revels in the idea of loneliness in this astrological psychedelic pop anthem. Stretching just over four minutes, ‘Man On The Moon’ is pure layered luxury of digitalised vocals, vibrant guitars, a chirpy drum beat, sci-fi harmonica and a totally surprising children’s choir who repeatedly intone “I’m in your dreams now.” In our dreams, hearts, music libraries - Zella Day’s follow up to acclaimed debut LP, Kicker, is yet another keeper. - HT
